Story

On Thursday, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Teachers' Award 2024 to 82 teachers at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. This prestigious award aims to recognize the significant contributions of educators across the country, celebrating their dedication to enhancing educational quality and positively impacting their students' lives. Each awardee received a certificate of merit, a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, and a silver medal, along with an opportunity to engage with the Prime Minister. The selection process for this year's awards was conducted by the Department of School Education & Literacy, involving a thorough and transparent three-stage evaluation at the district, state, and national levels. A total of 50 teachers were chosen from 28 states, 3 Union Territories, and 6 organizations, highlighting the diverse representation of educators. Among the selected teachers, there were 34 males, 16 females, 2 differently-abled individuals, and 1 teacher working with children with special needs. In addition to the school teachers, 16 educators from the Department of Higher Education and 16 from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship were also honored. This expansion of the awards reflects the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's emphasis on the importance of motivated and capable faculty in advancing educational standards and fostering a culture of excellence. The National Teachers' Award is celebrated annually on September 5, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, underscoring the value placed on educators in Indian society. This recognition not only honors individual achievements but also aims to inspire a broader commitment to educational excellence across the nation.
