Story

Tesla has announced a recall affecting approximately 9,100 Model X sports utility vehicles in the United States due to potential issues with the roof trim. The recall, which marks the second instance of this issue since 2020, involves cosmetic trim pieces that may not have been properly adhered, posing a risk of separation while driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlighted that this could create a road hazard and increase the likelihood of accidents. The affected vehicles are from the 2016 model year, and Tesla has indicated that a process change was implemented at the supplier in July 2016 to mitigate this problem in subsequent models. As part of the recall, Tesla will conduct tests on the adhesion of the roof trim and reattach any loose pieces at no cost to the vehicle owners. The company has been investigating reports related to this issue since 2022, including conducting aging tests under various conditions. Despite being aware of around 170 reports and claims linked to the roof trim issue, Tesla stated that there have been no reported crashes or injuries associated with the recall. This recall is notable as Tesla typically addresses vehicle issues through over-the-air software updates rather than physical recalls. In the first half of the year, Tesla recalled nearly 2.6 million vehicles, trailing only Ford in the number of recalls issued in the U.S.
