BMC resumes construction site inspections post-elections
- The BMC's focus on construction site inspections has been delayed due to election duties.
- Actions against violators will begin next week as staff return to their regular roles.
- The BMC aims to improve air quality and enforce pollution control measures at construction sites.
In Mumbai, after the conclusion of the recent state assembly elections, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is refocusing on its construction site inspections. These inspections had been temporarily delayed due to the election duties of approximately 60,000 civic officials. The BMC has issued orders to all 24 administrative ward officials to take immediate action against any construction site violations starting next week. A meeting is also scheduled with newly appointed deputy engineers in the environment department to address measures combating air pollution. Over the past two years, air quality has worsened during the winter months from November to February, prompting pre-election instructions for developers to adopt pollution control measures at their sites. With the election staff returning to their usual duties, the BMC aims to strengthen its oversight and curb activities contributing to air pollution, including improper waste disposal and burning materials for cooking at construction sites.
