Story

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Browns are gearing up for the return of quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is set to make his first appearance since suffering a shoulder injury last November. Coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Watson will play in the team's preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks on August 24. This decision comes after Watson missed the exhibition opener against the Green Bay Packers and will also sit out the upcoming home game against the Minnesota Vikings. Watson has been cleared for contact following his recovery from surgery, and while he will participate in controlled practice sessions against the Vikings this week, quarterbacks are generally not subjected to contact during these joint practices. Stefanski noted that Watson has shown significant progress in his rehabilitation, often ahead of schedule, and has been consistently throwing during training camp. The 28-year-old quarterback's last season was marred by injury, as he only managed six starts before fracturing his glenoid bone in a game against the Ravens. Despite the injury, Watson played through the pain, leading the Browns to a comeback victory. Following the injury, he underwent surgery, and the team has since signed veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to bolster their roster. As the Browns prepare for the regular-season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on September 8, Stefanski plans to utilize a similar strategy as in previous years, allowing starters to gain some playing time in the preseason finale.
