Livingston County Tests New 911 Camera System

Livingston County is pioneering a new approach to enhance the accuracy of emergency dispatch information through a camera-sharing system. Dean Drake, CEO of Eagle Eye Networks, emphasized the importance of visual data, stating that it provides a clearer understanding of emergencies compared to traditional information. The county's Emergency Communications Center is currently testing this technology, which aims to improve response times and situational awareness during critical incidents. The initiative, supported by Joe Bommarito of Elite Fire Safety, involves retail businesses and commercial facilities, including schools, subscribing to the service. The Livingston Educational Service Agency is among those currently demoing the program. Notably, the cameras will only be accessible to dispatchers during active 911 calls, ensuring privacy and security for the businesses involved. This innovative system marks Livingston County as the first in Michigan to implement such technology. Bommarito, part of the local installation team, explained that the camera access allows dispatchers to provide real-time guidance to callers, such as instructing them on CPR techniques during emergencies. This capability not only aids in medical situations but also enhances responses to potential fire hazards and other urgent scenarios.
