Gas prices drop significantly in Michigan as demand decreases

In the United States, gas prices are showing signs of decline in several states, including Florida and Michigan, as of April 2025. In Florida, the average price for gasoline has decreased after a brief rise earlier in the week. The state average reached $3.11 per gallon, marking the lowest daily average in two weeks. This decrease is attributed to falling crude oil prices, which dropped more than $7 a barrel recently. AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins highlighted that the state average could approach $3 per gallon threshold soon, indicating potential ongoing price reductions at the pump. Meanwhile, Michigan has also experienced a notable reduction in gas prices, with an average decrease of 15 cents per gallon over the past week, bringing the average price down to $3.08. Although prices have decreased compared to last week, they are slightly higher, 8 cents more than they were last month. The state’s average is also significantly lower than the costs seen at the same time last year, where the price difference is 62 cents. AAA spokesperson Adrienne Woodland remarked that drivers in Michigan are benefiting from these price drops due to falling crude oil prices and decreased gasoline demand. Despite the positive trends, experts caution that various factors could halt the downward trajectory of gas prices, including potential changes in tariff regulations. Patrick De Haan from GasBuddy stated that while gas prices are expected to continue trending lower, any abrupt tariff changes could impact this trend. Additionally, as refiners wrap up seasonal maintenance, supply is set to increase, potentially stabilizing or further dropping prices. This period is crucial as historical data suggests gas prices usually reach their annual peak around April 10, suggesting that consumers may have already seen the worst prices for this year. In terms of regional price variances in Florida, Miami-Dade recorded a price of $3.04 per gallon. This was lower than the previous week’s average of $3.11, reflecting overall statewide trends. West Palm Beach and Naples reported higher prices, with averages exceeding $3.20, whereas Panama City and Pensacola presented notably lower prices, averaging around $2.85. The ongoing changes in gas prices in both Florida and Michigan showcase a positive outlook for consumers enjoying lower fuel costs amidst fluctuating crude oil markets and varying demand.
