Story

In Minnesota, an incident involving law enforcement occurred when a suspect in a domestic assault was pursued following a reported attack. The Becker County Sheriff's Office responded to a call reporting a domestic assault on Wednesday evening on the 200 block of Highway 21. Witnesses indicated that a man had entered a home, attacked someone, and then stole a gun. After the assault, the suspect was located driving in Detroit Lakes, prompting multiple agencies, including the Becker County authorities, the Detroit Lakes Police Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol, to engage in a chase. The chase culminated at a rest stop in Frazee, Minnesota, where law enforcement officers made contact with the suspect. At this location, officers shot the suspect, who subsequently was transported to the hospital for treatment. While authorities have not provided details on the number of officers involved in the shooting or their respective agencies, it is confirmed that no officers sustained injuries during the event. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has taken over the investigation, which will include a review of body camera footage from the officers involved. In a separate incident in Texas, Plano police identified the victim of a homicide and the suspect who was fatally shot by police following a standoff. The victim, 24-year-old Hammta Shafiye-Mogadam, was discovered dead in her apartment on Wednesday afternoon. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Ladavian Kaliq Pearson, had a prior relationship with Shafiye-Mogadam, and authorities indicated that the event was not a random act of violence. Authorities reported that the officers shot Pearson after he posed a threat during an attempted arrest in Euless on Thursday. Following a tip that his vehicle had entered the city, Euless patrol officers initiated a stop before plainclothes officers from Plano arrived to provide support. When Pearson did not comply with commands and allegedly posed a danger, officers exchanged gunfire, resulting in Pearson's death. The investigation into this incident is being conducted by the Euless Police Department, while the Plano Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit is handling the homicide investigation.
