Story

Bhopal Lokayukta police have apprehended a clerk from the Bhopal Development Authority (BDA) for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs 40,000. The clerk, identified as Tarakchand Das, was demanding a total of Rs 3.35 lakh to facilitate the renewal of a land lease for a complainant's house located in the Rattnagiri area on Raisen Road Piplani. The complainant, who had been struggling to navigate the bureaucratic process for the lease renewal, reported the clerk's demands to the Lokayukta police. After a thorough verification of the complaint, a trap was set up by a team led by Inspector Rajni Tiwari, along with team members Ghanshyam Marskole and others. On Friday, the police executed the operation as the complainant handed over the first installment of Rs 40,000 to Das at his office. Initially, the clerk did not have the cash on him, but subsequent searches revealed the bribe money hidden in his desk drawer. Following the discovery, the Lokayukta police arrested Tarakchand Das and have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter. This incident highlights ongoing issues of corruption within local government offices and the efforts of authorities to combat such practices.
