Australia seeks Olympic talent for Brisbane 2032 Games

Australia is set to initiate its largest talent search next month, aiming to discover athletes for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is collaborating with state counterparts and over 40 sports organizations, including Paralympics Australia, to launch the 'Future Green and Gold' program. This initiative will focus on identifying young talent and providing them with elite training pathways. The program targets Australians aged 13 to 23 for the Olympic team, while those over 13 can apply for the Paralympic program. Notably, no prior sporting experience is necessary, encouraging individuals transitioning from non-Olympic or Paralympic sports to participate. Historically, Australia has performed well in the Olympics, finishing third in the medal tally during the 1956 Melbourne Games and fourth in 2000 in Sydney. The country recently celebrated its most successful Summer Games in Paris, where athletes secured 18 gold medals and a total of 53 medals. This success is expected to inspire a new generation of athletes to pursue Olympic sports, as highlighted by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC). AOC chief executive Matt Carroll emphasized the importance of home team success for the overall success of the Games. He noted that many Olympians began their journeys in different sports before finding their Olympic niche.
