Bissell Recalls 3.2 Million Steam Cleaners Due to Burn Risk

Bissell is recalling approximately 3.2 million Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners in the United States due to a potential burn hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has identified that certain models, specifically the 39N7 and 2994 series, may expel hot water or steam during operation, posing a risk to users. In addition to the U.S. recall, around 355,000 units are also being recalled in Canada. The recall follows reports of 157 minor burn injuries linked to the product, with an additional 26 incidents reported without injuries. Bissell, which has a long-standing reputation for quality products, emphasized that consumer safety is its top priority. The affected steam cleaners were sold at various retailers and online over a 16-year period, from August 2008 to May 2023. Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled steam cleaners immediately. Bissell has stated that the devices cannot be repaired, but affected customers can receive a $60 credit or a $40 refund. To process the refund or credit, customers must cut the cord of the steam cleaner and upload a photo showing the model number and cut cord through a designated form on Bissell's website. The processing time for refunds or credits may take up to six weeks. Bissell clarified that this recall does not affect any other products in its lineup, ensuring that customers can continue to trust the brand for their cleaning needs.
