Ferrari reveals details of its first fully electric vehicle amid tariffs

In Milan, Italy, luxury sports carmaker Ferrari announced a positive revision of its 2025 financial predictions despite the looming 15% tariffs imposed on foreign car imports to the United States. The company unveiled the powertrain and chassis for its first fully electric production vehicle, dubbed the Ferrari Elettrica, which is set to be delivered beginning late next year. CEO Benedetto Vigna did not provide specific target production numbers or pricing details for the Elettrica; however, he emphasized the vehicle’s potential to attract new buyers to the Ferrari brand. The design for the Elettrica is scheduled to be disclosed in the spring of 2026. Under Ferrari's new five-year plan, it anticipates that by 2030, 40% of its product lineup will be traditional internal combustion engines, 40% hybrids, and 20% electric vehicles, with a goal of launching an average of four new models each year. This business strategy aims for a broader range of models with lower volumes, allowing Ferrari to adapt to shifting market dynamics and consumer preferences. The Elettrica embodies a culmination of 15 years of research into electrification, drawing from technologies initially developed for Formula 1 racing. This innovative approach began with the limited edition La Ferrari hybrid supercar introduced in 2013, setting the stage for Ferrari's transition toward electric vehicles. The Elettrica aims to replicate the iconic Ferrari driving experience, incorporating elements such as powertrain vibrations gathered through accelerometers located on the rear axle. These vibrations will be enhanced to create an immersive sports car sound during operation, aiding in maintaining driver engagement and the expected high-performance sensation. Additionally, the Ferrari Elettrica will be constructed with sustainability in mind; 75% of its chassis and body shell will be fabricated from recycled aluminum, which is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 6.7 tons per vehicle. As Ferrari raises its revenue forecast to over 7.1 billion euros for the current year, the company also sets ambitious targets for net revenues of 9 billion euros by 2030, with plans to achieve an EBITDA of at least 3.6 billion euros and margins exceeding 40%. Chief Financial Officer Antonio Picca Piccon noted that the government confirmation of the 15% tariffs had alleviated previous uncertainties and provided a clearer business outlook for Ferrari. The firm is reassured by solid market performance, particularly in the sports car segment, which has contributed significantly to revenue growth over the years.
