Story

Katarina Johnson-Thompson has successfully maintained her lead in the Olympic heptathlon following the long jump event at Stade de France. Although her final jump measured 6.40 meters, it was sufficient to keep her at the top of the standings as she heads into the javelin throw. Meanwhile, her Great Britain teammate Jade O’Dowda is currently positioned 11th with a best jump of 6.33 meters. In the women’s 4×400 meters relay, Team GB, featuring Yemi Mary John, Hannah Kelly, Jodie Williams, and Lina Nielsen, secured a place in the final with a season-best time of 3:24.72. They finished second in their heat, which was dominated by the American team, who finished over three seconds ahead. Ireland also advanced to the final, clocking 3:25.05, thanks to the efforts of Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, Kelly McGrory, and Sharlene Mawdsley. The men’s 4×400 meters relay final is also on the horizon for Great Britain. In a thrilling race, Botswana established an early lead, but British athlete Dobson made significant ground in the final stretch, battling Japan’s Kentaro Sato. Ultimately, Christopher Bailey of the United States clinched second place. Hudson-Smith, who recently earned silver in the individual 400 meters, expressed confidence in the team’s potential to achieve historic results in the upcoming final. Max Burgin made headlines by becoming the first British man to reach the Olympic 800 meters final since 2012, achieving a personal best of 1:43.50. However, teammates Ben Pattison and Elliot Giles, who stepped in for the injured Jake Wightman, were eliminated in the semi-finals.
