Explosion injures six and damages homes in Austin neighborhood

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, an explosion occurred at a home in northwest Austin, Texas, resulting in severe injuries and extensive property damage. Emergency services received multiple calls around 11:23 a.m. reporting the explosion, which took place on Double Spur Loop. Upon their arrival, firefighters discovered that a two-story residence at 10412 had been completely leveled, while a neighboring house at 10410 had partially collapsed due to the force of the blast. A car parked in the driveway was also engulfed in flames as a result of the explosion. The Austin Fire Department quickly mobilized teams to extinguish the fire and assist victims trapped in the debris. A resident was rescued from the leveled home and transported for medical treatment, while another individual trapped inside the adjacent house required significant extrication efforts. Division Chief Wayne Parrish confirmed that emergency responders accounted for all individuals from the affected residences. Although there were no confirmed fatalities, a total of six adults were reported injured. Out of the injured, two were in critical condition, one from each of the destroyed homes. Another person from the primary residence was in serious but stable condition, while a fourth adult with minor injuries chose not to be transported to the hospital. Additionally, two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the response, with one being taken to a hospital for treatment. The injured individuals suffered from a range of medical issues, including burns and fractures. Updates regarding their conditions are anticipated soon. As the investigation into the cause of the explosion unfolds, officials announced that there was no gas service at the property. This detail suggests that alternative factors may have triggered the incident. Witnesses described hearing the explosion, which was audible as far away as Georgetown, approximately 20 miles north of downtown Austin. Meanwhile, at least 24 homes in the vicinity reported some level of damage. Local crews from the Austin FD, police, EMS, and the Travis County Sheriff's Office all collaborated in responding to the emergency situation. While initial reports hinted at the possibility of a plane crash, officials quickly ruled out this theory, emphasizing that the event appears to be isolated.
