Harris boosts support in key states
- Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada now considered toss-ups in the election.
- Former President Donald Trump losing support in these key states.
- Vice President Kamala Harris gaining popularity with a polling bump.
The Cook Political Report has revised its assessment of Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada, moving these states from “Lean Republican” to “toss-ups” as Vice President Kamala Harris gains momentum in the polls. Editor-in-chief Amy Walter noted a significant shift in voter sentiment, with Harris now trailing Trump by less than one point, a change of over three points in her favor since three weeks ago. This marks a notable shift in the dynamics of the presidential race, with Democrats appearing more united and energized compared to a faltering Republican front. Recent polling data indicates a narrowing of Trump’s leads in critical battleground states. In Georgia, his advantage has decreased from 5.9 points to just 1 point, while in Arizona, it has dropped from 5.5 points to 1.9 points. Although polling in Nevada remains limited, recent surveys from CBS and Bloomberg suggest Harris is gaining ground there as well. Despite these changes, the Cook Political Report still projects Trump leading with 235 Electoral College votes compared to Harris's 226. Harris, addressing supporters at a rally in Philadelphia, acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating, “We are the underdogs in this race.” Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign has criticized the media for allegedly downplaying his rally attendance and has accused the Cook Political Report of bias in favor of Harris. The former president continues to assert that the media is an adversary, claiming they ignore significant support at his events.
