Navi Mumbai: In response to the alarming sexual abuse case involving two minor students in Badlapur, the Navi Mumbai Zilla Congress has urged the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to conduct a comprehensive survey of security measures in both private and municipal schools. The incident, which involved the sexual assault of two four-year-old girls by a school sweeper, has raised significant concerns about the safety of children in educational institutions. The party's request, articulated in a letter to the municipal commissioner, emphasizes the urgent need for inspections to ensure adequate safety protocols are in place. Party member Ravindra Sawant highlighted the increasing frequency of sexual assaults on school-aged children, stressing the necessity for local authorities to take proactive measures to safeguard students. The Congress has specifically called for an evaluation of the presence and functionality of CCTV cameras in schools, as well as a review of the gender composition of staff members. Additionally, the Congress has requested that the NMMC verify the presence of female attendants on school buses and in restrooms to enhance student safety. The party underscored that the issue of security extends beyond female students, noting that male students have also faced inappropriate behavior. To prevent a recurrence of the Badlapur incident, the Congress insists that the NMMC commissioner conduct site visits to assess and address any gaps in safety measures across all schools in the region.
