Minnesota sisters raise over $6,000 for Myanmar earthquake victims

In recent days, Myanmar has faced a catastrophic disaster with an earthquake registering at 7.7 magnitude, resulting in a death toll surpassing 3,100 individuals. Rescue operations are still ongoing as teams sift through the wreckage in search of over 200 people who remain unaccounted for. In response to this devastating situation, a group of sisters from St. Paul, Minnesota, is actively fundraising for relief efforts to aid their homeland. Each sister, identified as a member of the Kachin ethnic group, has a personal connection to Myanmar, having relocated to the U.S. after a military coup changed their lives. Mirian Seng Bu, one of the sisters, expressed her disbelief at the devastation caused by the earthquake, and she, together with her sisters Ruth, Margaret, and Mary, felt compelled to act swiftly in support of their fellow countrymen. Launching a GoFundMe campaign, they have succeeded in raising over $6,000 to assist the victims, ensuring that all funds collected will directly benefit those affected. Collaborating with an Anglican archbishop and a local youth philanthropist organization, they focus on providing tangible aid, including rescuing individuals trapped in buildings. Mirian stated their commitment to speaking up for their homeland, emphasizing the resilience of the Myanmar people who will strive to rebuild despite such tragic circumstances. Their initiative not only showcases the sisters' compassion but also highlights a broader community effort to provide much-needed assistance during a time of crisis.
