Ukrainian drone attack ignites fire at critical oil depot in Sochi

This Sunday, the Russian city of Sochi experienced a significant fire incident at an oil depot, attributed to a Ukrainian drone attack, according to regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev. The fire broke out in the Adler district of the coastal resort city, which has seen infrequent attacks during the ongoing conflict that began in February 2022. Emergency officials reported that a fuel tank with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters was engulfed in flames, leading to the involvement of over 120 firefighters in firefighting efforts. In the Krasnodar region, where Sochi is located, the Russian defense ministry reported that its air defense units managed to intercept and destroy 93 Ukrainian drones overnight, with some incidents occurring over the waters of the Black Sea. The ministry specified that one drone was destroyed over Krasnodar region, while not detailing how many drones were launched by Ukraine, indicating that the conflict continues to escalate with ongoing aerial assaults. Following the attack, flights at Sochi's airport were temporarily postponed to ensure safety before resuming operations. Previously, a woman lost her life in a drone strike in Adler, underlining the increasing threat posed by such assaults. Meanwhile, the governor of the Voronezh region reported injuries resulting from another Ukrainian drone strike that sparked several fires, along with a retaliatory missile attack by Russia on Kyiv, marking a busy day of conflict activity in both regions.
