Story

Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has departed for Germany following his silver medal win at the Paris Olympics. Sources indicate that he is seeking medical advice regarding a potential surgery and will assess his participation in upcoming Diamond League meetings. A family member confirmed to PTI that Chopra is expected to remain in Germany for at least a month, with the Indian Olympic Association also verifying his absence from the country. Chopra, 26, had previously consulted a doctor in Germany about his ongoing injury issues and had a brief training session in Saarbrucken last month. His return to competitive action is anticipated in September, contingent on his recovery. During the Olympics, he expressed a strong desire to compete in the Diamond League Final scheduled for September 14 in Brussels, but he must first participate in at least one Diamond League meeting, either in Lausanne on August 22 or Zurich on September 5. His team, including his coach and physiotherapist, will evaluate his condition to determine his participation in the Diamond League events. Currently, Chopra holds a joint fourth position in the Diamond League Final standings with seven points, aiming to secure a spot among the top six finishers who will compete in the final. Despite his success, Chopra has been managing a groin injury that has affected his performance, revealing that a significant portion of his focus during throws has been on this injury.
