Albania is set to host the next meeting of the European Political Community in the first half of 2025, as announced by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. This decision was made during the most recent meeting in Budapest, where Rama took over the position of the next host. He described this occasion as a privilege and remarked on the significant changes in dialogue between Albania and the European Union, which were previously deemed unimaginable. Rama highlighted the impact of external events, particularly the actions of Vladimir Putin, which have stirred the EU's engagement with the region. On October 15, Albania officially began negotiations for the first cluster of chapters with the European Union, marking a pivotal shift in its integration process. The significance of Albania's role in European politics was underscored during its hosting of the historic EU-Western Balkans Summit on December 6, 2022. This summit was the first of its kind held in the region, featuring participation from EU and Western Balkans leaders, who affirmed their support for the integration of Western Balkan nations into the European Union. Rama conveyed a sense of 'tragically optimistic' sentiment regarding Albania's European prospects, asserting that the country would continue to strive for its rightful place in Europe, which is now seen as increasingly attainable with the opening of new paths in integration talks.
