Spotify CEO Discusses Hi-Fi Plans and Upcoming Deluxe Tier

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has revealed that the streaming service is still in the early stages of implementing its long-anticipated hi-fi audio support. During the company's recent earnings call, Ek provided insights into a new deluxe subscription tier, which was initially announced in 2021. This tier, known as Spotify HiFi, aims to offer users an upgrade to a “CD-quality, lossless audio format,” but its launch has been delayed until mid-2024. Ek indicated that the deluxe tier would be priced approximately $5 above the current premium subscription, likely landing around $17 or $18 per month. He described it as a “much better version of Spotify,” which would retain all the benefits of the existing premium service while providing enhanced control and higher audio quality. Although specific features are yet to be disclosed, Ek hinted at additional functionalities that would cater to the needs of dedicated music enthusiasts. The new tier is expected to include not only the long-awaited hi-fi audio streaming but also innovative tools for playlist creation and other enhancements. Ek emphasized that a significant portion of Spotify's 246 million subscribers are eager for a more advanced version of the service, particularly those who are passionate about music and seek greater flexibility in their listening experience. As Spotify continues to develop this deluxe offering, the company aims to meet the demands of its most dedicated users while enhancing the overall quality of its platform.
