In a recent interview with Breitbart News, Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union (ACU), expressed concerns about the perception of U.S. election practices from an international perspective. Schlapp highlighted that attendees at Conservative Political Action Conferences (CPAC) held overseas are often astonished by certain electoral processes in the U.S., particularly the use of drop boxes for ballots. He noted that his organization has reached out to secretaries of state in key battleground states to address public confidence in elections and the controversial use of drop boxes. Schlapp emphasized the irregularities he perceives in U.S. elections, stating that foreign observers are baffled by last-minute judicial decisions that alter voting procedures. He pointed out that while many countries conduct elections, they do not experience the same level of reported fraud or confusion surrounding voting methods. He reiterated his opposition to drop boxes, advocating for monitoring their use in states where they have been legalized. The ACU chairman also criticized the notion that requiring voter identification or ballot stamps is inherently racist, labeling such claims as a "uniquely American concept." He argued that the idea of voter ID being discriminatory overlooks the historical context of racial issues in the U.S. Schlapp called for a return to straightforward voting processes that minimize opportunities for fraud while ensuring accessibility for voters, advocating for a system that balances integrity and ease of participation in elections.
