Disneyland Abu Dhabi aims to outpace Universal Studios in opening timeline

In recent months, the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi has revealed plans for the construction of Disneyland Abu Dhabi, which is slated to open between 2030 and 2032. This announcement comes as competition heats up with Universal Studios, which has set its own target opening year of 2031 for a new theme park in the United Kingdom. Disney's chairman for theme parks, Josh D’Amaro, noted that the large scale of the Abu Dhabi park necessitates extensive design and construction phases, extending the timeline for its completion. Disneyland Abu Dhabi is still in the early design stages, raising expectations about its eventual debut, with the possibility of an opening ahead of the much-anticipated Universal Studios in Britain. The park is part of Yas Island’s broader entertainment vision, which is fundamental to the local economy as it aims to draw tourists and generate jobs.
