Benicia Names Interim Police Chief as Permanent Chief

Benicia has officially appointed Mark Menesini as the city's new police chief, following his tenure as interim chief since February. Menesini takes over from former chief Mike Greene, who retired earlier this year. The announcement was made by the Benicia public information office, highlighting Menesini's extensive 24-year career with the Benicia Police Department. Throughout his career, Menesini has held various roles, including patrol officer, criminal detective, SWAT operator, and field training officer. His diverse experience within the department has equipped him with the skills necessary to lead effectively. City Manager Mario Giuliani emphasized the importance of selecting a qualified and capable leader for public safety, stating that Menesini has demonstrated exceptional leadership during his interim period. Menesini's track record includes successfully managing high-risk incidents and providing strong guidance to department personnel. His commitment to public safety and community service has been recognized through multiple awards, including two Life Savings Awards and the Chief's Medal. He was also honored as the Benicia Police Department's Officer of the Year in both 2006 and 2014. As Menesini steps into his new role, the city expresses confidence in his ability to continue excelling as the chief of police, ensuring the safety and well-being of the Benicia community.
