New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Jake Haener has revealed that he has been diagnosed with skin cancer, although he reassured fans that it is not currently life-threatening. During a practice session on Friday, Haener was seen with a small bandage on his face and shared that he will consult with doctors next Thursday to discuss further procedures. He emphasized the importance of addressing the issue promptly to prevent any potential spread of the cancer. Haener first became aware of his condition when he noticed an "odd-looking bump" on his face that continued to grow. He expressed concern about delaying necessary treatment, stating, "With these skin cancer things, if you wait, things spread." His proactive approach highlights the urgency of addressing health issues, particularly in athletes who often prioritize their physical performance. This diagnosis marks the second instance of a Saints player facing cancer in the past year. Tight end Foster Moreau, who joined the team last year, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma but announced his full remission in July after undergoing treatment. Haener, reflecting on his own situation, noted the unexpected nature of such health challenges at a young age. Despite his diagnosis, Haener remains focused on his role with the team, competing for the backup quarterback position behind Derek Carr.
