Story

NXP Semiconductors N.V. has introduced the Trimension SR250, a groundbreaking single-chip solution that integrates on-chip processing with short-range ultra-wideband (UWB) radar and secure ranging capabilities. Announced on September 10, 2024, in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, this innovative technology aims to enhance user experiences in both autonomous homes and industrial IoT applications. The Trimension SR250 operates within the 6-8.5 GHz frequency range, enabling precise location and motion detection, which is crucial for smart home automation and safety monitoring. The device supports advanced features such as 3D angle-of-arrival (AoA) calculations and time difference of arrival (TDOA), achieving accuracy within ±5 cm. This level of precision allows for various applications, including secure home access and monitoring the well-being of individuals without intrusive surveillance. The integration of low-power radar technology means that the system can remain in a low-energy state while still detecting movement, enhancing efficiency in smart environments. To facilitate development, NXP provides comprehensive support through firmware, middleware, and sample applications, making it easier for developers to implement the technology. The Trimension SR250 is designed in accordance with the FiRa Consortium 3.0 technical specifications, ensuring interoperability and simplifying certification processes for manufacturers. Currently, the Trimension SR250 is in the sampling phase, with general availability expected in Q4 2024. This launch represents a significant advancement in NXP's UWB solutions, paving the way for a future where technology anticipates user needs and automates responses in various settings.
