- The technology provides real-time assessments that allow increased capacity while maintaining safety standards.
- This partnership exemplifies innovative solutions in the energy sector, enhancing grid reliability.
In Belgium and the United States, on December 10, 2024, Ampacimon announced that Basin Electric Power Cooperative adopted its Dynamic Line Rating technology to enhance the performance of their transmission lines. This cooperative serves approximately three million members across nine states, and the need for improved line capacity has become increasingly crucial as demand for electricity rises. With traditional methods relying on static ratings that do not account for real-time weather conditions, there was a significant limitation on the potential capacity of transmission lines. Basin Electric faced challenges related to loading constraints in specific regions and sought a solution that would allow them to push more power through existing lines without compromising safety or regulatory requirements. They turned to Ampacimon’s innovative DLR system, which provides real-time assessments of wind and weather conditions to determine line ratings dynamically. The DLR technology enabled them to unlock additional capacity, resulting in financial savings for their cooperative members. Upon the deployment of Ampacimon's DLR sensors across 75 miles of their transmission lines, Basin Electric observed significant capacity gains within just days. They planned to expand this monitoring to two additional line segments, totaling an additional 50 miles of line coverage, emphasizing their commitment to optimizing efficiency and reliability. This implementation not only demonstrates the potential impact of advanced analytics in the energy sector but also marks a significant step towards enhancing grid resilience and improving service delivery. Ampacimon's CEO, Stephan Heberer, highlighted the transformative potential of the DLR technology for energy organizations, supporting the integration of renewable energy and easing grid congestion. By utilizing real-time data and advanced calculations, the company aims to ensure compliance with industry standards while enhancing operational capacities across grids. This partnership between Basin Electric and Ampacimon may serve as a model for other utilities facing similar challenges in maximizing their infrastructure capabilities and reducing operational costs.
