Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that 42,000 trees have been planted along these four-lane highways, which include dedicated walkways for palanquins. The Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg stretches 221 kilometers from Diveghat to Mohol, while the Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg covers 130 kilometers from Patas to Tondale-Bondale. Gadkari emphasized the importance of further plantation efforts to enhance these routes as 'green highways.' He also mentioned a proposal to rename Pune Airport after Sant Tukaram Maharaj, pending discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to honoring the teachings of these saints, which Gadkari personally values in his work. In addition to the highway developments, Gadkari highlighted the need for Pune's transportation to shift towards ethanol to combat pollution.
