In Rajasthan, India, two labourers from Madhya Pradesh met a tragic end on December 1, 2024. Manoj, aged 45, from Morena, and Satyendra, aged 31, from Bhind, both worked at a local catering firm in Kota. The incident occurred around 3 pm when the men were allegedly drinking liquor and fell from the boundary wall of the Bhadana canal. Family members of the deceased began to worry when the men did not return home and searched for them late at night. During their search, the families discovered slippers and liquor bottles near the canal’s boundary wall, leading them to suspect something was wrong. Their fears were confirmed when they spotted the two men stuck in the canal water, resulting in an immediate call to local authorities. The police responded quickly, retrieving the bodies and transporting them to a hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors declared both men dead. Following a complaint from Manoj's brother-in-law, police initiated a case under section 194 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which mandates police inquiries into incidents that may involve suicide. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families the following morning. The tragedy highlights the potential dangers associated with alcohol consumption and negligence in the vicinity of hazardous locations such as canals. The unfortunate events surrounding the deaths of Manoj and Satyendra emphasize the need for increased awareness and safety measures regarding the risks of drinking alcohol near such perilous situations. Such incidents serve as a grave reminder of the consequences that can arise from a moment of irresponsibility, especially in settings where physical safety is at stake. Community outreach programs focusing on responsible drinking and safety education could potentially help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
