Google launches affordable storage options for Photos, Drive, and Gmail

Recently, Google has begun offering a new subscription tier known as Google One Lite, specifically targeting users in India. Priced at ₹59 per month, which is less than half the cost of the existing Basic 100GB option, this new tier aims to provide a more affordable entry point for users seeking additional cloud storage. The Lite plan offers 30GB of storage, which is a significant increase from the standard 15GB that users receive for free upon signing up for Google services. The introduction of Google One Lite comes at a time when competition in the cloud storage market is intensifying. Apple’s iCloud+ plan, for instance, offers 50GB of storage for about $0.89 monthly in India, and it includes family sharing, making it a more attractive option for users who wish to share storage with family members. In contrast, Google One Lite’s storage cannot be shared, which may limit its appeal. Currently, the Lite subscription is being offered with a one-month free trial, but it is only available to a small group of users in India. Google has not yet announced plans to expand this offering to other markets, leaving many potential users still looking at the 100GB option as the most affordable paid choice. As Google continues to explore ways to enhance its cloud storage offerings, the introduction of Google One Lite reflects an effort to cater to budget-conscious consumers while also responding to competitive pressures in the digital storage landscape.
