Story

ELK GROVE – An Elk Grove family is calling for justice following a violent incident involving their 13-year-old son, Seth Guingab, during a youth basketball game in Alameda. Video footage shows a player from Payton's Place allegedly stomping on Seth's head while the two were competing for an inbound ball. Seth's father, Roderick Guingab, shared a photo with CBS 13 that clearly displays a footprint on the side of his son's head, highlighting the severity of the attack. Seth is currently suffering from a concussion as a result of the incident. In response to the assault, Payton Place announced on their Facebook page that the player involved is no longer part of the team, emphasizing that violence is not a part of their program. Local attorney Justin Ward noted that the teen could potentially face charges of battery or assault, although no charges have been filed at this time. The incident has raised concerns about the behavior of both parents and coaches during youth sports events. Luong, Seth's basketball trainer, stressed the importance of setting a positive example on the sidelines and holding coaches accountable for their players' actions. He questioned why such violence is tolerated in youth sports when it is unacceptable in everyday life. The Alameda Police Department is currently investigating the incident, working to determine the appropriate actions to hold those responsible accountable. The Guingab family expressed their gratitude for the community's support and concern for Seth's well-being. They emphasized the importance of children's health and safety, declaring that violence in sports will not be tolerated.
