Story

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Miami Marlins secured a decisive 6-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night, with Bryan De La Cruz and Jake Burger hitting home runs off pitcher Freddy Peralta in the first inning. This win marked a significant moment for Marlins' starter Trevor Rogers, who allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings, becoming the first Marlins pitcher to earn a win since June 11. Rogers, who struck out one batter and walked none, expressed surprise at the milestone, noting it was his first victory since May 15. The Marlins quickly established a commanding lead, scoring five runs in the first two innings. De La Cruz's home run, his 18th of the season, came after Jazz Chisholm walked to start the game. Burger and Marlins' player Bell also contributed with their 13th home runs, while two additional runs were scored due to an error by Brewers' shortstop Willy Adames. Despite leaving 10 runners on base, the Marlins maintained their lead throughout the game. For the Brewers, Rhys Hoskins hit a solo home run in the third inning, tying him with Adames for the team lead with 16 homers. However, the Brewers struggled overall, with manager Murphy acknowledging the team's poor performance. Additionally, he confirmed that outfielder Christian Yelich, currently on the injured list due to a recurring back issue, will likely need surgery but may return to play this season. The Brewers also recalled pitcher Junk from Triple-A Nashville.
