West Bengal reports 4 sexual molestation cases amid RG Kar controversy

On a recent Sunday, four separate incidents of sexual molestation were reported across West Bengal, coinciding with the ongoing RG Kar controversy. The first incident occurred in the Illambazar area of Birbhum district, where a patient allegedly molested a nurse. The nurse reported that the patient, who was admitted with viral fever, abused her and touched her inappropriately. Following this, hospital staff protested until their safety was assured, leading to the patient's arrest by police. In Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas, a seven-year-old girl was reportedly molested by a neighbor, prompting a significant police presence to manage the ensuing protests. The situation escalated as community members expressed their outrage over the incident, highlighting concerns about child safety in the area. In Howrah, a lab worker at a hospital was arrested for allegedly molesting a patient, further raising alarms about safety in medical facilities. Additionally, in Nadia, another minor was molested by her cousin, who lured her with the promise of food before committing the act. These incidents have sparked widespread criticism of the state government, particularly from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to ensure the safety of women and children. BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul condemned the situation, emphasizing the alarming state of women's safety in hospitals and the community at large. The series of incidents has intensified calls for accountability and change in the government's approach to protecting vulnerable populations in West Bengal.
