A 35-year-old man from Rajasthan was detained at Jaipur airport for allegedly giving his wife a triple talaq over the phone while working in Kuwait. The man, identified as Rehman, is accused of subsequently marrying a Pakistani woman named Mehwish, whom he met on social media. Mehwish arrived in Churu on a tourist visa last month and is reportedly living with Rehman’s parents. The case came to light when Rehman’s first wife, Farida Bano, 29, filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him last month. She accused him of dowry harassment and of divorcing her through the controversial practice of triple talaq. According to police officials, Rehman and Farida were married in 2011 and have two children together. Following the filing of the FIR, Rehman was detained upon his arrival in Jaipur from Kuwait on Monday. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ranveer Singh, who oversees the SC/ST Cell, confirmed that Rehman was taken to the police station for preliminary questioning and subsequently arrested the following day. Rehman had moved to Kuwait to support his family financially, working in the transport sector. The case highlights ongoing issues surrounding the practice of triple talaq and its implications for women's rights in India.
