Customs seizures reveal massive meth shipment hidden in chili peppers

Highlights

  • This interception showcases the ongoing efforts of CBP to prevent drug trafficking into the United States.
Story

On Sunday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers conducted an inspection of a tractor trailer that led to the discovery of a significant amount of narcotics. The physical inspection uncovered 1,859 packages of alleged methamphetamine, weighing a total of 2,155 pounds with an estimated street value of $31 million. The CBP responded by seizing the tractor trailer, the drugs, and the shipment of serrano peppers. Consequently, Homeland Security agents have initiated a criminal investigation into the matter. Although this incident is notable, it is not the largest drug seizure recorded this year; that distinction belongs to a February incident involving 13,000 pounds of meth concealed in absorbent materials for pig farming, valued at $117 million.
