Warning on Baby Loungers after Deaths
- Parents and caregivers advised to stop using specific baby loungers and cradle swings.
- Six deaths reported in connection to the use of these products.
- Authorities issue urgent warning to protect infants.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning to owners of DNYSYSJ and OUKANING cradle swings after a tragic incident involving an infant's death in a similar crib design. This brings the total number of reported fatalities to six, highlighting serious safety concerns associated with these products. The CPSC has identified five infant deaths linked to Mamibaby, Yoocaa, and DHZJM-branded loungers, with incidents occurring between 2020 and 2021. Among the reported fatalities, a 10-day-old infant and a five-month-old baby died while using Mamibaby loungers for bed sharing. In one case, a three-month-old was found entrapped between an adult bed and a wall, while a four-month-old was discovered unresponsive after being placed in a lounger with a blanket. The CPSC also noted a fifth death involving a DHZJM-branded lounger in 2020. These products, along with others from Cosy Nation and Hyhuudth, have been found to violate federal safety regulations due to design defects that pose suffocation risks. The Mamibaby loungers were sold online at Walmart and Amazon, with prices ranging from $31 to $50. The DNYSYSJ and OUKANING cradle swings, sold on Amazon, were priced between $80 and $145. The CPSC's warning follows a 2021 incident involving a three-month-old in a cradle swing of similar design, urging parents to refrain from using these potentially hazardous products.
