Story

Fulham FC has officially announced the signing of midfielder Sander Berge from Burnley for a fee of £20 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons. The Athletic reported that personal terms were swiftly agreed upon, and the 26-year-old underwent a medical examination in London on Tuesday. This acquisition marks Fulham's fourth signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Ryan Sessegnon, Jorge Cuenca, and Emile Smith Rowe. Berge's arrival is particularly significant for Fulham as it strengthens Marco Silva's midfield options, especially after Joao Palhinha's recent transfer to Bayern Munich. The club had previously attempted to bolster their midfield by making bids for Manchester United's Scott McTominay, which were ultimately rejected. Notably, Berge had also been considered a potential target for United during this transfer period. The Norway international had a challenging start to the season, not featuring in Burnley’s first two Championship matches under new head coach Scott Parker, who took over from Vincent Kompany. Last season, Berge made 37 appearances for Burnley as they faced relegation from the Premier League. He joined Burnley from Sheffield United last summer, signing a four-year contract ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. Berge's football journey began in Norway, where he progressed through the youth ranks at Asker before moving to Valerenga in 2015 and later to Genk in 2017, showcasing his potential as a talented midfielder.
