Joe El-Abd, a former flanker for Bristol Bears and Toulon, has gained recognition in the coaching realm after a decade in France. He has successfully transitioned into coaching, achieving two promotions with Oyonnax, first as an assistant coach in 2017 and then as head coach in 2022. His previous role as defence coach at Castres culminated in a French league title in 2018, showcasing his tactical acumen. The RFU is currently seeking a new defence coach following Felix Jones' unexpected resignation. Jones, who had a successful tenure with South Africa, described the environment as 'unstable,' prompting the RFU to consider his 12-month notice period.
