Punjabi music streams surge 2000% in five years

In recent years, Punjabi music has experienced a remarkable surge in popularity, with global streams increasing by 2077% and UK streams rising by 286% over the past five years. This growth can be attributed to the genre's fusion with hip-hop and collaborations with mainstream artists, which have attracted a diverse audience. Karan Aujla, a prominent figure in the genre, has expressed his belief in the potential of Punjabi music to become a global phenomenon, reflecting the aspirations of many artists from humble beginnings. Surjit Singh Ghuman MBE, a managing director in the industry, has pointed out that these themes may have originated from the experiences of Punjabi youth in Western countries, where such issues are prevalent.
