The USA Softball Western 'B' National Championship has attracted nearly 40 elite 10U teams from various regions of the state, bringing approximately 2,500 participants, including athletes, coaches, and family members. These visitors are estimated to significantly impact the local economy, generating over $1 million, as they engage with local hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments. Placer Valley Tourism, the organization that oversees regional tourism efforts, highlighted that the event has provided a unique opportunity for sports tourism to flourish in an area that lacks other major tourist attractions like lakes or ski areas. Kim Summers, the CEO of Placer Valley Tourism, noted that the community has adapted its tourism strategy to focus on sports and youth events, which has proven to be a beneficial niche for the region. The tournament's success is attributed to strong city partnerships and community support, which have facilitated the event's organization. Karla Burket, Junior Olympic Commissioner for USA Softball of Sacramento, mentioned that collaborative efforts between city staff, park workers, and local amenities like Top Golf and movie theaters have been essential for creating a welcoming environment for competitors and their families. Among the teams participating is the Poway All Stars, who are competing after winning the Southern California State Championship. The players expressed their excitement and appreciation for the experience, emphasizing the value of their time spent together as a team during this event.
