Konnie Huq has initiated a free ebook titled Children for Change, aimed at UK primary schools to educate children about the climate crisis. This project features contributions from over 80 writers, illustrators, and environmentalists, including well-known figures like Jamie Oliver and David Baddiel. The ebook is intended to provide engaging content, blending stories, poems, and illustrations on environmental themes. Topics discussed include fast fashion, rewilding, and carbon footprint measurement. The project aims to address the lack of access to books for many children and schools by offering this resource for free. By fostering an early appreciation for environmental issues, it encourages children to take action and instills values of responsibility towards the planet. Huq emphasizes the need for children to recognize their influence and encourages a proactive mindset among young readers. Funded by a national lottery grant from Arts Council England and published by Pop Up Projects CIC, the book includes contributions from a diverse range of voices, including pieces from former Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho and comedic writer Adam Kay. Additionally, it offers activity prompts and resources to inspire readers to engage with environmental actions. This initiative represents a holistic educational approach, making valuable resources available to children across the UK. By inspiring action and awareness, it aims to positively impact future generations concerning their role in protecting the environment.
