Mira Bhayandar: MBMC Fire Department Sprays Water On Illegal Firecracker Stock, Seizes Inventory; Visuals Surface

In Mira Bhayandar, India, the Municipal Corporation took decisive action on Sunday, addressing the proliferation of illegal firecracker vending stalls amid safety concerns as the Diwali festival approached. The fire department intervened against eighteen stalls, most of which were operating contrary to the regulations set by the Indian Explosive Act of 1884. The municipal authorities sprayed water on the stocks of seven stalls, rendering their firecrackers unusable, while they confiscated and disposed of the inventory from four other stalls by burying them in a deep pit. Additionally, licenses were suspended for seven stalls which were subsequently shut down. This crackdown is part of a broader safety initiative aimed at protecting citizens during the festive season. The municipal commissioner, Sanjay Katkar, emphasized that such illegal activities endanger public safety and will not be tolerated. To monitor the situation effectively, a team of 29 fire personnel has been deployed, equipped with rescue vehicles and water tenders. Furthermore, the administration introduced a safety policy designed to regulate firecracker sales, identifying twelve designated grounds for vendors to operate safely. A complete ban was enforced on setting up temporary stalls on public roads and footpaths, ensuring that vendors adhere to stipulated regulations while obtaining necessary permissions from property owners. This proactive stance underlines the local government's commitment to ensuring public safety during celebrations, responding swiftly to the violations observed in the region.
