This marks Liddell's second trade in less than a month, following his acquisition by the Hawks as part of a larger deal that sent star guard Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans on July 6. Liddell, a second-round pick from Ohio State in 2022, has struggled for playing time, appearing in only eight games last season. David Roddy, the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft, has had a more active role, starting 13 of 65 games for Memphis and Phoenix during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 6.5 points and 3.2 rebounds, with notable performances including 18 games scoring in double figures and two games matching his career high of 10 rebounds. Roddy's summer league performance was impressive, averaging 14.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists over five games. The trade not only involves a player swap but also reflects the Hawks' ongoing strategy to enhance their lineup. In addition to Liddell, the Hawks received guard Dyson Daniels, forward-center Larry Nance Jr., and center Cody Zeller in the previous deal for Murray, along with future draft picks, including a 2025 first-rounder and a conditional 2027 first-round pick.
