In a study conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan, it was revealed that certain ultra-processed foods (UPFs) significantly affect human lifespan. The investigation detailed how consumption of foods like hot dogs, pizza, and other processed meats shortens life expectancy. Specifically, eating a single hot dog can reduce one's lifespan by an average of 36 minutes. Additionally, drinking a soda alongside a hot dog can shave off another 12 minutes. Surprisingly, healthier food options such as fruits and vegetables were found to extend life, where every 10 percent of daily caloric intake from these healthier options could add approximately 48 minutes to one’s lifespan. The study's analysis also generated alarming findings about the composition of popular foods widely consumed in the U.S. Nearly 75 percent of the food consumed is classified as ultra-processed, filled with additives and harmful ingredients.
