MIAMI (AP) — In a standout performance, rookie Adrian Del Castillo led the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 9-6 victory against the Miami Marlins on Monday night, marking his first career grand slam and driving in six runs. Del Castillo, a former University of Miami player, also recorded a two-run single and his inaugural stolen base during the game, showcasing his offensive prowess. Starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt struggled for Arizona, allowing four runs and nine hits over 5 1/3 innings. Del Castillo's grand slam came in the third inning, propelling the Diamondbacks to a 4-0 lead. The Marlins responded with a home run from Nick Fortes in the same inning, but the Diamondbacks maintained their edge with a solo shot from Joc Pederson in the fifth. The Marlins narrowed the gap to 5-4 after Pfaadt was chased from the game, but Kevin Ginkel stepped in to halt the threat with a crucial double play. Del Castillo continued to shine, adding two more runs in the seventh inning, while Corbin Carroll's two-run homer in the eighth solidified Arizona's lead. In roster news, the Diamondbacks placed All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte on the 10-day injured list due to a sprained left ankle, recalling Smith from Triple-A Reno. The Marlins made a roster move as well, recalling Connor Norby from Triple-A Jacksonville and designating infielder Emmanuel Rivera for assignment. The series continues with Eduardo Rodriguez set to start for Arizona on Tuesday.
