New Delhi, August 8: The judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been extended until August 20 as he faces allegations related to an excise policy scam. Kejriwal appeared via video conferencing from Tihar Jail at the Rouse Avenue Court, where his previous custody period expired. The Delhi High Court recently dismissed his plea challenging the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) actions, directing him to seek interim bail from the trial court instead. The Delhi High Court has yet to deliver a verdict on Kejriwal's bail plea concerning the corruption case, having reserved its decision. Meanwhile, the CBI has submitted a charge-sheet against Kejriwal and other accused individuals in a special court. Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a prosecution complaint in a related money laundering case, naming Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as defendants. Despite a Supreme Court order on July 12 granting him interim bail in the ED's money laundering case, Kejriwal remains in custody due to his arrest by the CBI. Currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail, he has communicated with Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, informing him that Education Minister Atishi Marlena will hoist the national flag on his behalf during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15. Traditionally, the Chief Minister leads the flag-hoisting ceremony at Chhatrasal Stadium, but Kejriwal's ongoing legal troubles have necessitated this delegation of responsibility.
