Plane door falls on fisherman at South Broulee Beach, NSW

On a Friday morning at approximately 9:30 am, a small plane door detached from an aircraft while flying over South Broulee Beach in New South Wales. Locals, including a fisherman, witnessed the door plummeting towards the ground, creating a scene of panic. The fisherman, however, remained oblivious to the danger, continuing to fish as the door landed about 20 meters behind him. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. Murphy Shaw, a 22-year-old student visiting from Canberra, was surfing nearby with a group when he noticed the door falling. He described the moment as surreal, likening it to a glitch in reality. Despite the chaos, the fisherman did not react to the warnings from the surfers, who attempted to alert him to the impending danger. The door made a loud thud upon landing, believed to have struck some driftwood. After the door landed, it was quickly removed from the scene by an individual who transported it back to the airport. A spokesperson from Eurobodalla Shire Council confirmed that the door had detached from a private aircraft, and both the pilot and passenger had safely returned to Moruya Airport following a normal landing. The incident was reported to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, which will determine if an investigation is warranted. The event highlights the unexpected dangers associated with aviation and the importance of safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
