In a bizarre incident in Idaho Springs, Colorado, a wanted suspect named Alec Bogus was apprehended after a frantic chase involving law enforcement officers. On the day of the incident, which took place at the Indian Hot Springs resort, Bogus, 33 years old and hailing from Aurora, was a suspect in a credit card fraud case. Authorities were seeking him due to his involvement in this fraudulent activity, as well as an existing felony warrant against him for assault in Douglas County. Upon locating him at the resort, Bogus emerged from a mud bath clad only in a black Speedo, presenting a unique sight to the officers nearby. Upon realizing that police were there to arrest him, he fled the scene, scrambling up a mountain barefoot in an attempt to evade capture. Law enforcement quickly reacted by initiating a search, deploying numerous officers to the area. A drone was also utilized by the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office for aerial reconnaissance to help locate him. Chief Nathan Buseck, head of the Idaho Springs police, noted how unusual and humorous the situation was, recalling the radio call describing Bogus’s muddy, almost-naked state while running away. Despite his efforts to escape, police managed to locate him near Montane Drive and Divide View Drive in a matter of time. He attempted to conceal himself inside a shed but was ultimately taken into custody. During the pursuit, some police officers faced challenges; one deputy suffered a knee injury, and a Taser deployment aimed at Bogus did not hit the target. Bogus was arrested on numerous charges, including assaulting a peace officer, burglary, obstruction, and resisting arrest. The officers also discovered Bogus’s identification inside a stolen vehicle found at the hot springs. This added further complications to his legal situation, intertwining multiple criminal charges against him, including those from the ongoing credit card fraud investigation, the car theft, and the pre-existing felony warrant for assault.
