In a disturbing incident in Kashimira, a 25-year-old delivery man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 12-year-old girl. This case comes amid heightened national concern over sexual violence against women and minors, following recent high-profile incidents, including the tragic rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. The accused, identified as Sharad Kanojiya, reportedly entered the girl's home while she was alone and fled upon noticing her father approaching. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Thursday, but it was not reported to the police until late that night when the girl's mother returned home. The Kashimira police, led by Senior Inspector Rajendra Kamble, responded swiftly, apprehending Kanojiya within 30 minutes as he was found sleeping in his nearby residence. Authorities have charged the accused under several sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (PoCSO) Act, 2012, as well as provisions of the newly enacted Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, which includes assault and sexual harassment. Following his arrest, Kanojiya was remanded to police custody after appearing in court. The victim, who has four siblings, comes from a modest background, with her father working as a painter and her mother employed as a cook. Investigations are ongoing as the community grapples with the implications of this latest incident of violence against minors.
