Marcos vows to investigate corruption in flood control projects

They asserted that the Armed Forces of the Philippines must remain non-partisan and abide by constitutional mandates, emphasizing that attempts to politicize military involvement would only detract from their primary focus on national security. This support came as a response to the rising calls for a potential “people power” revolt, reminiscent of similar uprisings in the country’s past. Over the last three years, the Philippines has allocated an estimated 545 billion pesos, approximately $9.6 billion, towards various flood mitigation projects. These initiatives are under intense scrutiny following allegations of substandard and non-existent projects, which have been revealed during ongoing congressional investigations. Numerous legislators, construction companies, and government engineers have been accused of embezzling funds, earning lavish rewards at the expense of the citizens they are meant to serve. Despite the outrage, current protests in the Philippines have remained relatively small and peaceful compared to demonstrations in other countries.
