Borges' attorney, Alex Arreaza, emphasized the importance of understanding the underlying causes of Cruz's actions to potentially prevent future tragedies. The settlement not only includes the brain donation but also grants Borges the rights to Cruz's name for use in various media, a common practice in such agreements. This follows a previous settlement where the Broward County Public School District paid $26 million to victims of the shooting, with Borges receiving $1.25 million.
